Vocaris began in 2001 with the vision of 3 couples who saw a need for a marriage preparation program which addressed issues within the teaching of the Catholic Church. A pre-cana retreat was formed in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area and the Vocaris couples also began mentoring area engaged couples on an individual basis to prepare them for the sacrament of marriage. Years later Vocaris continues to grow to reach numerous couples each year.  We have now expanded to two retreats per year and due to the retreat’s growing popularity, consider adding more. The Vocaris team has worked with numerous couples both married and engaged. The team now consists of more than ten married couples who are committed to their marriages and their Catholic Faith.

Vocaris (pronounced voe-car-is) means “we are called.”  This name was chosen because we are all truly “called” to our own vocation.  Marriage is a vocation, one that God specifically calls some to. Just like any other vocation, if we are to live it out to its fullest we must rely on wisdom and resources outside of ourselves.  First, God is our best source of wisdom.  If we stay connected to Him, He will guide us and give us the strength we need to fulfill our vocation. Second, other people God has placed in our lives are a wonderful resource. Whether it be through books, elders, or organizations like Vocaris, there is a wealth of knowledge to be learned from the experiences of others.  We just have to be humble and willing to use it.
